The National Student Exchange (NSE) can help make traveling more affordable and accommodate a broad range of a student’s interests and needs. NSE offers student exchange with over 160 universities across the U.S., Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada. NSE gives students from across the country the opportunity to take classes that are not available at their school, learn more about graduate schools and broadening their educational perspective. Additionally, students who have participated in NSE have made new connections in their career path, gained experience living and working in new communities and have collaborating with fellow students and instructors from across the globe. Jordy Foster studied Biology at Montana State University in the Fall of 2019 through NSE. “Spending time in Montana definitely impacted where I see myself living in the future,” Senior Biological Sciences Major, Jordy Foster said “I think being able to live in a new place for a whole semester really showed me that it is the type of lifestyle that I would love to live and that there’s a lot more to see that I still have yet to see.” NSE values diversity, open-mindedness and cross-cultural engagement fostering learning, understanding, respect and a sense of community among all people. Part of their mission is founded on the belief that adding a collegiate study away experience enhances education and enriches student growth. Additionally, NSE is more affordable; most students pay Cal Poly tuition or their host school’s in-state tuition, receive financial aid and all students will earn credits towards their degree. All students, including DACA and international students, are eligible and encouraged to apply. “NSE for me was a lot more affordable than most of the study abroad programs that are available,” Senior Biological Sciences Major, Jordy Foster. “I was paying the same amount to go to Montana State University and pay the in-state tuition in Montana, as I do going to Cal poly as an in-state resident of California.” NSE’s programs include Semester in the Parks at Southern Utah University, Semester By The Sea at Stony Brook University in Southampton, New York, and French Summer School at Universite de Sherbrooke in Sherbrooke, Quebec.
