A Message From The International Center
Dear Colleagues and Supporters,
As we step into fall quarter 2025, we’re energized by the continued momentum in global learning and engagement across our campus. This season brings with it exciting growth and fresh opportunities to connect our students and faculty with the world beyond our borders. We are thrilled to announce that the number of Cal Poly students studying abroad has soared this year — reflecting a 21% increase over last year alone. This incredible growth signals not only a strong recovery from the impacts of COVID-19 but represents the largest cohort of outbound students in Cal Poly’s history — a major milestone in our efforts to expand access to global experiences. Additionally, increasing numbers of students are choosing to study abroad to pursue language study resulting in majors and minors in additional languages through the World Languages and Cultures Department, further deepening their global perspectives and intercultural competence.
This year, the International Center is excited to welcome students from 57 different countries, each bringing unique perspectives that enrich our campus community. We hope you will join us at Sipping Coffee, Spilling Tea on November 19 during International Education Week as our panel of international students shares their experiences at Cal Poly. It promises to be a lively, engaging conversation that you won’t want to miss — complete with boba tea for the first 25 attendees. As we continue our efforts to build a more inclusive and globally connected campus, we encourage you to review these helpful resources to enhance inclusive teaching and support of international Mustangs.
Our new faculty-led global programs are also taking off — opening doors for more students to explore innovative, high-impact learning experiences that integrate academic, cultural and professional development abroad. These programs continue to build bridges of understanding and opportunity for international and campus communities alike. For faculty passionate about bringing the world into the classroom — or taking their classroom to the world — there are many opportunities to play an active role in shaping Cal Poly’s global engagement. We encourage globally-minded faculty to consider applying to teach abroad or propose a new program. We invite those interested to visit our website to explore current opportunities, guidelines and upcoming deadlines. Consider attending the faculty opportunities open house during International Education Week as well. Your creativity and vision are key to broadening the global learning landscape for our students.
We continue to support our community of international students — whose diverse perspectives and experiences enrich our campus every day — to empower the dedicated faculty and staff who prepare today’s students with the skills and vision to lead tomorrow, and to celebrate the accomplishments of our students, scholars and alumni at Cal Poly and around the world. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to our donors whose passion and partnership continue to drive Cal Poly’s global education forward. Together, we’re building a truly connected and globally engaged community.
In partnership,
