International Engagement Symposium

May 7 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

1901 Marketplace Pavilion

Students speaking to one another in a Hallway

The International Center is pleased to announce the 2025 International Engagement Symposium, which will take place May 7, 2025 from 4-6 p.m. in the 1901 Marketplace Pavilion. This event is open to all Cal Poly faculty and staff.

Each year, the International Engagement Symposium brings together experts, thought leaders, and visionaries to spark global connections and explore opportunities for impactful cultural and academic exchange.

Faculty and staff are invited to join us as we welcome three dynamic voices from across campus, each bringing a unique global perspective and spirit of innovation to their work:

Dr. Ahmed Deif (OCOB): Delve into the world of development studies as Dr. Deif shares his collaborative research on shea butter supply chain management in Ghana.

Dr. Nick Babin (CAFES): Discover the intersections of service-learning and sustainability as Dr. Babin highlights his hands-on research with students on Fair Trade coffee cultivation on an eco-friendly farm in Costa Rica.

Dr. Silvia Marijuan (CLA): Explore powerful intersections of language, culture, and global learning as Dr. Marijuan shares her research in Spain on how immersive, international experiences shape language acquisition and identity.

Plus, be inspired by poster sessions presented by colleagues from across campus as they share their innovative approaches to international research, teaching and engagement. Come mingle with fellow internationally-minded colleagues and join us for an inspiring afternoon of cross-cultural dialogue, insights from the field, and be part of the conversation that’s shaping how we bring Cal Poly to the world and the world to Cal Poly.

Refreshments will be served.
