It is strongly recommended that you secure housing soon after being admitted to Cal Poly as an international student since there is limited housing available both on- and off-campus.
Information about on-campus housing and timeline to apply can be found at the Housing website.
Note: Please apply for On Campus Housing early in order to have the best chance of getting your housing preferences secured. If you apply for University Housing and decide to cancel your reserved space you can do so until August 9th 2017 with no financial penalty. After that date you will be responsible for your housing contract. If you end your enrollment prior to spring quarter, you must give 30 days notice to the Housing Office to be excused from your contract. University Housing offers multiple learning communities to suit your interests. One of note is the Passport Community in Connections where students interested in global cultures and issues can choose to live. Only Cerro Vista Apartments are open during the winter. If you need to stay on campus during that time, please consider that when you request your housing preference.
If you have questions regarding on-campus housing, please feel free to email the Housing Administration Office or call 805-756-1226.
Off-Campus Housing Resources
The University Housing Office maintains off-campus rental information of housing, apartments, mobile homes, and an extensive list of private and shared rooms. If you wish to explore off-campus housing options you can do so by using the off-campus housing list on the Off-Campus Housing web page.

- CollegeHuts (enter zip code 93407)
- HomeShare SLO
- The SLO Student Living Apartments (May not require U.S. Guarantor)

The University does not inspect, approve, or disapprove of any housing offered through these rental resources. Protect your rights as a renter! Review the documents provided on the Information for Renters section of the Off-Campus Housing web page.
Living within the city of San Luis Obispo will allow you to take advantage of free bus transportation using the SLO Transit System or to ride a bike or walk to campus. There are communities within a 15-40 minute commute to San Luis Obispo, including Arroyo Grande, Atascadero, Cayucos, Grover Beach, Los Osos, Morro Bay and Pismo Beach, and all provide public transportation to Cal Poly via the RTA bus system.
Off-Campus Housing Assistance via Facebook
If you are looking for an off-campus room, apartment or sublet, you are encouraged to join our International Student Housing Facebook Group. This group was created for international students to connect with other Cal Poly students who are looking to share/sublet an apartment or room with international students.
